MC Amazing Race winners announced MC Chamber Charities Inc. announced Mappers Delight as the 2022 winner of the MC Amazing Race. Mappers Delight team members were Kevin Klag, Richard Belle, Cindy Belle and Krystle Momosor. On Sept. 10, 20 teams of four drove around Medina County searching for clues, performing challenges and taking selfies hoping to win first place and the $500 prize. The other awards went to: Second place and $300 went to The Golden Squad. Its team members were Amanda Stamm, Jamie Varga, Tammy Mushangazhiki and Allison DiPaolo. The Spirit Award, which goes to the team bringing the most cheer and camaraderie, went to Team Not Average But Savage, which included Jen Wish, Yvonne Inman, Heather George and Amanda Hogue. They received a gift card. Nicole Heiser had the winning ticket for the 50/50 raffle and took home $780. MC Chamber Charities raised more than $10,000 during this event for next year's scholarships. As part of an employee appreciation event, employees donated money for the opportunity to throw whip cream pies at members of the upper management team. Too Tired to Cook Thursday starts next week The first Brunswick Education Foundation's "Too Tired to Cook Thursday" of the school year takes place on Thursday. The drive-thru fundraiser offers three complete meals featuring two entrée salad options and a chicken tenders meal with potatoes and vegetables. An extra portion of the chicken or a dessert can be added on. This event offers sit-down-style meals at fast food prices. All meals may be picked up 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the Diamond Event Center at 1480 Pearl Road. The deadline for pre-ordering is 3:59 p.m. Monday. Orders can be placed at bit.ly/3xS5HqL. Medina County Historical Society open house The Medina County Historical Society will have an open house on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the McDowell-Phillips House Museum at 205 South Prospect St. It is a guided tour through the museum. Many items have been added for display. Admission donation prices are $10 for adults, $9 for MCHS members and seniors and $7 for students ages 7-18. At the museum gift shop, tickets can be purchased to attend the speakeasy on Oct. 1. Also, raffle tickets can be purchased for the Victorian Feast and the grand raffle. Do not park on Blake Avenue. Second female sergeant joins Medina Police Department For the first time in the city's history, the Medina Police Department has two female sergeants in leadership roles on its police force. Sgt. Raven Ory was sworn in Tuesday. She joins Sgt. Sarah Lynn, who became a Medina police officer in 2005 and was promoted to sergeant in 2016. Ory was hired by the Medina Police Department in August 2017. She began as a patrol officer, and in 2020, she was named Claggett Middle School's Resource Officer and the department's D.A.R.E. officer. She will be stepping down from her work in the schools to take on the position of day shift patrol sergeant. She replaces the recently promoted Lt. Bryan Wagner. Ory is an instructor for women's self-defense and is Crisis Intervention Team and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement certified. She currently lives in Medina County. Ory graduated from Normandy High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from Bowling Green State University. Medina County ADAMH Board thanks providers Each year, Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services recognizes people who work directly with individuals struggling to overcome substance use disorders by hosting a Week of Appreciation. This year, the Week of Appreciation will be held from Sunday through Saturday. The ADAMH Board wants to highlight these individuals for their efforts and continued commitment to Medina County residents. As the need for services continues to grow, a nationwide workforce shortage has led to fewer individuals entering the behavioral health field. These agencies are working to face the substance use and overdose epidemic with fewer staff and increasing needs while offering diverse and essential services to the community. "Despite these challenges, Medina County organizations are continuing to save lives," Executive Director Phillip Titterington said. "These workers remain dedicated to their mission of engaging individuals and families in treatment and recovery support, promoting prevention efforts and building strong, resilient communities. Litchfield road levy meeting Litchfield Township has two road levies on the upcoming November election ballot. The first levy is a 1-mill, five-year renewal levy that brings in $65,800 a year. This levy amount has been renewed since the late 1990s. The new additional road levy is for 2 mills for $203,200 in funding for five years. Learn more about these levies and more on Monday from 7-8:45 p.m. at the Litchfield annex meeting room, which is behind the town hall at 9266 Norwalk Road. The Litchfield Historical Society will have a brief business meeting before presenting facts and history on Litchfield roads. Trustee Mike Pope, the township's road manager, will share what it takes to maintain township roads and the need for the requested levies. Brief information will also be shared on what else is on the upcoming election ballot. The event is free, open to the public and kid-friendly. Road closures throughout the county The CSX railroad crossing on Wolff Road, west of Buckeye Library, will be closed for railroad work. CSX will work with emergency vehicles and school buses to allow them to cross the railroad during the closure. The road will be closed Monday through Saturday. The alternative route is Spieth Road or Neff Road. The Hinckley Township Trustees have authorized the closure of Valley Brook Boulevard between Willow Brook Lane and Brook Hollow Oval beginning Monday through Nov. 4 for road construction. Grafton Road and Myrtle Hill Road will be closed beginning Monday through Saturday for CSX railroad crossing repairs. Grafton Road will be closed at the crossing between Columbia Road and Liverpool Drive, approximately 750 feet west of Liverpool Drive. Myrtle Hill Road will be closed at the crossing between Wilmot Road and Center Road, approximately 1,420 feet east of Wilmot Road. New impacts of resurfacing projects State Route 162, from just west of Firestone Road to just east of the village of Spencer, will have single-lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. It is estimated to be completed by November.
