Summer break may be half over, but there is still more than enough time for some frugal fun in the sun. If you are looking for a few things to do this summer that won't break the bank, make sure to add a few of these to your list. Beach day We are blessed to live near Lake Erie. Even if you decide not to swim, a day at the beach can be full of fun. Pack a lunch, bring a blanket, sand toys, and a frisbee and enjoy a few hours under the sunny skies. Even my teenagers enjoy a day at the beach, especially when we invite a few friends. Library programs From story time for your little ones to book discussions for adults, the library has free programs for every family member. Stop in to grab some books, but be sure to check out their calendar of events also. It is sure to keep you busy. Times and events can vary by location, but usually, these are posted online or on their social media pages. Sign up early as some programs can fill up fast. Discounted movies Regal Cinemas brought back the Summer Movie Express series, where select theaters offer $2 tickets to specific kids' movies on Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings. Atlas Cinemas offers an early bird $5 special on family-friendly features this summer at 11 am on Wednesdays. Most of the shows offered are older and maybe ones you've already seen before, but my kids never seemed to mind. Metro Parks Get out and enjoy the sunshine! Your local Metro Parks offer some great activities to keep your family busy all summer. From family hikes, tram rides, and outdoor summer concerts, you won't have time for anything else. Best of all, many of these programs are free or provided for a minimal fee. Check out their websites for more details on specific events. City events Look up your city's calendar of events for frugal activities for your family. Festivals, farmer's markets, outdoor concerts, and communitywide events are planned all summer and fall. These events are a great way to get to know your neighbors and hang out with family and friends. Don't let the summer pass you by; pack in as much frugal fun as possible.
