The second half of property tax payments are due by July 8 Medina County Treasurer John Burke announced that the second half of the 2021 property tax bills have been mailed to county property owners. The official payment due date for these tax bills is July 8. If taxpayers do not receive a tax bill in the mail, call the Treasurer's office at (330) 725-9748 or go to medinacountytreasurer.com to look up the tax bill. Click "Search and Pay Taxes" in the left column to find the proper tax bill amount. Taxpayers can then print an official tax bill for payment by mail or in person, or they make a payment online and print a receipt. Payments can be made by electronic check with a $1.50 fee or with a credit card or PayPal account which has a 2.5 percent fee. Another option is to pay by phone with Visa, MasterCard or Discover cards toll-free at (888) 607-8389 which also has a 2.5 percent fee. The vendor fees charged for each of these options are paid directly to the vendors. Medina County does not receive any part of the fees. 24 hour drive-up, drop-off boxes are available for check payments. Make sure to include the tax bill stub with the check. The office will be open until 6 p.m. on July 8. The entire tax bill must be presented at time of payment. Checks, cash or credit cards that are Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express are accepted over the counter. A convenience fee will be assessed by the vendor. Tax payments which are mailed must be postmarked no later than July 8 to avoid a five percent penalty. Payments made after July 18 will be assessed a 10 percent penalty. The story time starts at 10:30 a.m. Local ham radio operators on the air for nationwide event Ham radio operators from the Medina County Amateur Radio Club will participate in a national amateur radio exercise from 2 p.m. Saturday until 11 a.m. Sunday. It will be held at Mill Stream Park in Valley City. The event is an annual amateur radio activity which has occurred since 1933 by The National Association for Amateur Radio in the United States. Hams from across North America ordinarily participate in field day by establishing temporary ham radio stations in public locations to demonstrate their skill and service. Field day highlights ham radio's ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent, wireless communications network. This year's event will occur during a predicted particularly active hurricane season. Local student on dean's list at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire announced that 2,461 students were named to the spring 2022 dean's list. Tayla Thome, of Medina, made it onto the dean's list this semester. She is in the college of education and human sciences. New impacts of state Route 18 reconstruction Octagon Drive will be closed for six more days to construct the pavement in front of the drive entrance and the driveway itself. The estimated completion of pavement work is Tuesday. Woodland Drive, between state Route 18 and Damon Drive, will be closed today for 14 days of pavement work. The detour route will be state Route 18 to North Spring Grove Street to Weymouth Road to Woodland Drive. The estimated completion of the pavement work is July 5.
