Medina County students go to Buckeye Boys State Some 633 Ohio high school juniors were at Buckeye Boys State from June 12 through June 19. This program teaches students government at the local, county and state level, and it is held at Miami University in Ohio. The program is sponsored by the American Legion Department of Ohio. Medina's American Legion Post 202 has three of its members holding executive positions at the state planning level. McJak Candy Co. marks 40-year anniversary McJak Candy Co. celebrated 40 years in business during an open house event Wednesday. Medina Mayor Dennis Hanwell presented a proclamation during the event. Hydrant flushing in Medina The Medina Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants Monday through Friday throughout June. If hydrant flushing proceeds ahead of the weekly schedule, crews may move on to the next week's streets. If so, those streets will be marked with signage indicating hydrant flushing. Hydrants on these streets will be flushed: Bridgeport Drive Providence Drive Warick Court Farmcote Circle Vineyard Drive Southampton Drive Farmington Circle Halifax Lane Booth Bay Drive Puffin Pointe Drive Bar Harbor Boulevard South Court Street south of High Point Drive Continental Drive Lipke Court Newell Lane Stratton Drive Freeport Drive Medina City Hall closed for Juneteenth Medina City Hall will be closed on Monday in recognition of Juneteenth. Residential trash collection will remain on a regular schedule for the week. Road closures throughout the county Station Road, between Wolff and Spieth roads, will be closed for CSX Railroad to replace cross ties in the railroad crossings. This closure will occur Monday at 7 a.m. and will open on Friday. An alternate route is Lester Road and Erhart Road. Smith Road, between Spencer Road, state Route 301 and River Corners Road, will be closed for a bridge replacement. This closure will take place from Monday until Sept. 20. New impacts of state Route 18 reconstruction Woodland Drive, between state Route 18 and Damon Drive, will close Wednesday for 14 days of pavement work. The detour route will be state Route 18 to North Spring Grove Street to Weymouth Road to Woodland Drive. The estimated completion of the pavement work is July 5. Local student achievements from Coastal Carolina University Nearly 1,000 students earned a spot on the president's list for the spring 2022 semester at Coastal Carolina University. Students who made the president's list earned a 4.0 grade point average during the semester. Local students included: Gillian Bushi, an anthropology and geography major, of Medina. Megan Vogelgesang, a management major, of Medina. Megan Gollin, a special education multi-categorical pre-major major from Brunswick, made the dean's list for the 2022 semester. Students who make the dean's list achieved a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.99 for the semester. Also, finance major Joshua Deyling of Brunswick graduated from Coastal Carolina University during the spring commencement ceremony. Library book sales today The Seville Library is having a book sale during the Seville Giant Yard Sale. This will run from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today.
