College Notes: Brunswick great Paige Salisbury hired by Kent State women's basketball

Kent State women's basketball coach Todd Starkey hired Paige Salisbury as the Golden Flashes' director of basketball operations. The former Brunswick great spent the past three seasons as a member of Lake Erie's coaching staff. After spending the 2019-20 season as a graduate assistant, Salisbury was promoted by the Storm to assistant for the last two seasons. After earning All-Ohio honors on two occasions, Salisbury played collegiately at Kent State and Ursuline. "We are excited to welcome Paige back as a member of our staff," Starkey said in a statement. "Paige returns with a variety of experiences during her time as a coach at the Division II level that will add instant value in this administrative role." In her two seasons at Kent State, Salisbury played 13 minutes per game, shooting .349 from the field and .500 from the foul line while averaging 1.3 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists. She was an Academic All-Mid-American Conference selection in 2017 while helping the Golden Flashes to a MAC East Division title and WNIT appearance under Starkey's leadership. For Ursuline, Salisbury averaged 8.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists and earned an All-Academic Great-Midwest Athletic Conference honors in basketball and softball as a senior. Women's track and field Sophomore Madison Miles (Brunswick resident/Padua Franciscan) helped Mount Union finish sixth at the D-III National championship by placing sixth in the 400 meters (55.24) and fourth in the 4x400 with a school-record 3:43.88. She earned All-America status in both. Illinois graduate student Rebecca Craddock (Brunswick) was named first-team Academic All-District 5 by the College Sports Information Directors of America after posting a 4.00 GPA in her public health graduate program. Graduate student Tarynn Cullings (Medina) was selected Academic All-Missouri Valley Conference after earning a 3.98 GPA as a marketing major at Loyola-Chicago. Men's track and field Johns Hopkins senior Justin Canedy (Buckeye) finished 10th in the long jump (6.84 meters) and 17th in the triple jump (13.34) at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track and Field Championships. His long jump was an outdoor season best. Baseball Senior Ross Thompson (Wadsworth) earned his second consecutive All-Ohio Athletic Conference honorable mention accolade after leading Heidelberg with 71 innings and 50 strikeouts. The right-hander finished 4-3 with a 4.44 ERA. Junior Matt Moore (Wadsworth) took home honorable mention All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors after hitting .354 with 24 RBIs for Wittenberg. Sophomore Zane Barnhart (Highland) earned All-G-MAC second-team honors after finishing the season with six saves, a 2.21 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings for Hillsdale. Senior Josh Hagans (Wadsworth) was named to the Academic All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference team after batting .311 with 20 runs and 24 RBIs for Mount St. Joseph. Women's tennis Richmond graduate student Emily Dunbar (Cloverleaf) earned her fourth first-team All-Atlantic 10 honor after going 9-7, including 5-2 in the A-10, in No. 1 singles action and partnering with Sara Salemyr to go 4-2 at the top doubles spot. Senior Emily Day (Wadsworth resident/Archbishop Hoban) took home a second-team All-OAC honor after going 5-3 in singles competition and 7-4 in doubles play for John Carroll. Day was honorable mention last year. Sophomore Gabriela Heideman (Wadsworth) earned her second straight second-team All-OAC honor after going 9-8 in singles play and 13-8 as a part of Baldwin Wallace's top doubles team. Sophomore Emily Hadler (Highland) teamed with Zuzanna Krygier to win their third doubles match 7-5 against Southwest Baptist's Lola Cincunegui and Giselle Garcia, but Findlay lost the NCAA Division II first-round matchup 4-2. Women's lacrosse Senior Eva Nikolai (Medina) was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team for the second time after posting a 4.00 GPA as a marketing major at Kent State. Junior Abby McMullen (Medina) earned Academic All-MAC honors after posting six goals and seven assists for Akron and a 3.83 GPA as a biomedical science major. Women's golf Graduate student Christina Williams (Highland) finished her Malone career with her fourth All-G-MAC honor.
