Brunswick residents concerned about neighborhood road conditions

BRUNSWICK — Residents of Frost Circle and Faulkner Boulevard attended the Brunswick City Council meeting Monday to express concern about the state of the roads by their homes. The residents said there is an excess amount of gravel on the road which may damage vehicles or hurt the children playing outside. The president of the homeowners association of the Laurel Creek neighborhood, Christine Anderson, went before the city council and asked for this to change. "The best I can do is beg you, respectfully beg you, please come take a walk in our neighborhood," she said. "Every single resident that I have spoken to has the exact same concerns. This is 147 houses with easily that many if not more, taxpayers and voters in this development that are seeing they got the shaft." Frost Circle and Faulkner Boulevard had an asphalt overlay as part of a larger road construction project last year, Council President Nick Hanek said. This neighborhood is part of his ward. Hanek said this is something the city has been working on and the city will continue to look at what happened in terms of the quality of the project. "I don't like how the results of the work looked and we should expect better and hopefully we will be able to work to find a solution to these issues," he said. "I understand the frustration, and we've done this very successfully in other places in the city. I trust the administration will work carefully to make sure that we explore every avenue to help improve the situation." Councilman Anthony Capretta said as a member of the service committee he wants this issue resolved as soon as possible. He decided to walk the affected streets himself and see the road conditions firsthand. "We are going to get this matter resolved," he said. "What I saw was a mess. It's uncalled for, and we're going to straighten it out." Also, during the City Council meeting, the city acquired a 5-acre parcel of land off of Hadcock Road as a possible sire for a new fire station. "We're in the early stages of looking to see if that site's feasible for a new fire station because we have very old fire stations," Hanek said.
