Gay (Nederhood) Vanderzyden

Gay (Nederhood) Vanderzyden, 88, of Ashland, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Lutheran Village of Ashland. She was born May 15, 1933, the late Arthur and Deane Nederhood of Cutlerville, Michigan. She attended Grand Rapids Christian High School. She earned a BA in Education from Calvin College and a Master's Degree from Baldwin Wallace University.Gay married the love of her life, Jerry Vanderzyden on June 23, 1962. She moved to Brunswick, with her husband and became a devoted wife and mother. Jerry and Gay were married for 35 years until his death in February of 1998. In addition to her beloved husband; her parents, Arthur and Deane Nederhood; sister, Mirth Vos; sister-in-law, Elsa Brown and grandson, Johnathon Mindel, preceded her in death. Gay moved to Ashland in 1997 and began working as an Administrative Assistant for the Ohio Summer Honors Institute at Ashland University and an Editorial Assistant for the American Secondary Education Journal published by the Ashland University College of Education. On Saturdays, Gay enjoyed meeting and talking to the friendly people of Ashland while she worked for Buehler's Fresh Foods as a Product Demonstration Clerk. Gay was active in the Ashland Community. She loved singing in church and community choirs, serving her church in evangelism ministries and participating/leading Bible studies. She made many friends and spent much time ministering to those around her. She is survived by her children, Heidi (Ernie) Mindel of Parma, Chris (Michelle) Vanderzyden of Ashland, Heather (Jim) Warholic of Medina and Jenny (Gary) Snyder of Lodi; grandchildren, Josh (Sadie) Vanderzyden, Joel (Mckenna) Vanderzyden and Julia Vanderzyden, Spencer, Harrison and Wilson Warholic and Haley, Abby, Madison and Morgan Snyder. She is also survived by her brothers, Joel (Mary Lou) Nederhood, Don (Ruth) Nederhood; sisters, Joy (Lee) Conklin, Eunice (Jerry) Barthel; sister-in-law, Ethel Visser and many nieces and nephews. Gay's family and friends will celebrate her life at Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center Street, Ashland on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 11:30 a.m., with visitation with her family the hour prior to the service and at the luncheon immediately following. A private burial will take place at Eastlawn Memory Gardens, Brunswick. The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, Mansfield is handling arrangements.
