Wadsworth native Katy Ho featured in Super Bowl commercial

WADSWORTH — A Wadsworth native was featured Sunday in a pre-game Super Bowl commercial promoting California tourism. Katy Ho, 26, graduated from Wadsworth High School in 2013 before moving on to Ohio University to play Division I golf. That talent on the links combined with modeling experience landed Ho a role in the nonprofit Visit California's newest advertising campaign, which premiered just before kickoff on Sunday. "We were told it would be the last block of commercials right before the game starts," Ho said Sunday in the lead-up to the commercial's airing. It's all pretty exciting. Professional golf didn't happen for me so now I'm pursuing entertainment part-time. I'm now a model for commercial and lifetime work. I saw this audition where they were looking for golfers. I found out they liked my swing and they wanted to hire me. Then, I found out if was for the Super Bowl." Ho just moved from Wadsworth to Los Angeles five months ago. "I always wanted to move out to L.A.," she said. "You have the good weather and it's right by Hollywood. Now, I'm trying to get after it and make stuff happen. I want to help with the lack of Asian representation in media. I'd love to make that change and be a part of that journey. Not only that, I was also pretty shy growing up and this was something out of my comfort zone. I wanted to challenge myself that way." As with many young Los Angeles residents trying to break through in entertainment, Ho works a separate full-time day job. "I do tech sales for an app called Snackpass," she said. "That's been pretty fun too. It's not quite in Ohio yet but I'm excited for the day that it is. My degree was in applied nutrition and food sciences and now I'm in food technology sales. I get to meet a lot of people in the food and restaurant industry, which southern California is really into. It all made sense for me and I'm happy to be here."
