Second roundabout confirmed for Montville Township

MONTVILLE TWP. — Another roundabout will be constructed along State route 162 in Montville Township, this one at the River Styx Road intersection, officials confirmed last week. Two million dollars for the project will be coming from the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency, said Medina County Commissioner Bill Hutson. "NOACA had a board meeting last week and the roundabout at 162 and River Styx has been approved," he said. "There's the money coming from NOACA to assist in the funding of that. I believe it's going to be done sometime in 2023 but the project is moving forward." Hutson also serves as first vice president on the NOACA board of directors. According to Montville Township police, trouble at the 162-River Styx intersection stems from cars traveling south on River Styx and coming over a hill only to find a long line of cars waiting at the stop sign. Ohio Department of Transportation work began last June to install a roundabout at the corner State routes 162 (Sharon Copley Road) and 3 (Wooster Pike) and wrapped up around the start of school. That $1 million project aimed to mitigate long-standing safety concerns, especially for those turning left (south) onto state Route 3, according to ODOT crash data. NOACA is a transportation and environmental planning agency that represents state, county, city, village and township officials in Greater Cleveland. It addresses the transportation, air quality and water quality needs of Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain and Medina counties. Medina County pays $70,000 to $80,000 a year to belong to NOACA, choosing to stay with the agency this past summer after some talk on seeking alternate planning services.
