Medina grad Jon Teske signs with Magic, to attend training camp

Medina High product Jon Teske will be back with the NBA's Orlando Magic when training camp opens Sept. 28. The 7-foot-1, 265-pound center signed with the Magic on Wednesday along with fellow free agents Jeff Dowtin and Hassani Gravett. Orlando's roster now stands at 18 players. The 24-year-old Teske, who earned two Gazette MVP awards in boys basketball before graduating from Medina in 2016, helped the Lakeland Magic win the 2021 G League championship. Teske played in 15 games (12 starts) for Lakeland, averaging 6.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 19.8 minutes. Teske spent the summer playing for Orlando's entrant in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. In five games (4 starts), he averaged 1.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 9.1 minutes. The University of Michigan graduate provides the Magic with insurance inside and will likely play for Lakeland again if he doesn't earn a spot with the parent club. Teske played in 129 games (70 starts) over his four-year college career at Michigan, averaging 6.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 19.1 minutes. He shot .601 from the field and finished his career tied with classmate Zavier Simpson as the Woliverines' all-time winningest player with 108 victories. Teske also finished his Michigan career fifth in blocked shots (165). He appeared in all 109 games over his final three seasons and will wear No. 15 with Orlando. The 6-3 Dowtin also spent last season playing for Lakeland and was on Orlando's summer league team, while the 6-2 Gravett played in the Macedonian League before joining the Magic's summer team.
