Virginia Mae Smith

Virginia Mae Smith, 82, of York Township, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 3, 2021. Virginia was born November 4, 1938 in Spencer, Ohio, to the late Walter and Martha (nee Egner) Schroeder. She had been a lifelong Medina County resident and a graduate of Medina High School. Virginia had worked in the corporate offices of Drug Mart, Medina for over 35 years, retiring at the age of 80. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working in her flower gardens and traveling with friends. She will be greatly missed by her children, Coy (Robin) Smith, Nita (Michael) Kovacek, Rex (Mona) Smith and Ivy (Bob) Carlsen; grandchildren, Willie (April) Schwinn, Jessica (Scott) Marcum, Cassidy Kovacek (Alex Colon), Brittney (Shane) Robinson, Kyle Carlsen, Erin Smith, Tara (Caleb) Wetzel, Alex Smith, Dan Carlsen, Ben Carlsen, Joe Smith and Grace Carlsen and great-grandchildren, Brock, Tyler, Logan, Bailee, Miles, Alli, Lincoln, William and little Ella arriving in November 2021. She is also survived by two brothers, Walter (late Buehla) Schroeder, Larry (Alice) Schroeder; a special niece, June Crago and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe L. Smith in 2007; siblings, Al (Jean) Schroeder, Martha (Bud) Ferrell, Bob (Martha) Schroeder, Ruth (Floyd) Echle and Juanita Schroeder. Calling hours will be held from 12 Noon until 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City, followed by a Funeral Service at 2 p.m. with Keith Bohley officiating. Burial will be at Chatham Cemetery, Spencer. Memorial are suggested to the Erhart Fire & Rescue Department.
