Brunswick Middle School stadium nearing completion

BRUNSWICK — Less than a year after Brunswick's new $65 million middle school opened its doors for the first time, the finishing touches are now being put on the school's stadium. Sam Grida, director of business affairs for the district, said the stadium is following schedule and will be turned over to the district by Aug. 16. He said the project is also in line with the budget. He did not have the final cost of the stadium readily available Wednesday afternoon. Finished are the football field, complete with goal posts, as well as the poured track around the field, though the lines still need to be added. The home bleachers are also in place, which Grida said will hold 801 people. The visitors side is on hold, but will be added before opening. Grida said after years of athletes throughout the three former middle schools needing to be transported to an off-site field, he is excited to provide students with a new, at-home facility. "(Being) on budget and on schedule is important, obviously, and I think we've hit both of those marks," Grida said. "We're going to have one of the best, state-of-the-art middle school facilities. Our kids, unfortunately, over the years in middle school were transported back and forth to a field that wasn't really their home field. "Now these kids are going to be able to experience having a place for themselves. A true football field (and) a facility that is state-of-the-art. I think it's going to be nice for those kids."
