Another roundabout could be on the way in Montville Township

MEDINA — Montville Township residents already are putting up with Ohio Department of Transportation construction of a roundabout at state Route 162 and state Route 3. That project is expected to be finished by the start of the school year. Now, there could be another roundabout constructed by the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency at Route 162 and River Styx Road, according to Medina County Planning Director Denise Testa. She gave some details of the proposed project to Medina County commissioners Tuesday at the Medina County Administration Building. Testa attended a NOACA meeting June 25 and received a legislative update from the Rural Advisory Council. A $3.2 million roundabout is one of three potential projects in the NOACA region. "(That intersection has) become a lot busier," Commissioner Colleen Swedyk said. Testa said she wanted to emphasize the project "has not yet been approved. It has not been allocated yet. It's in the bill (proposed by Congressman Bob Gibbs)." Montville police Chief Matt Neil said there hasn't been a tremendous amount of collisions at the intersection. What is a bit troublesome is when cars are traveling south on River Styx and come over the hill only to find a long line of cars waiting at the stop sign. He said if a roundabout would cure the line of cars at the intersection, he's all for it. "Anything to move that traffic quicker and get people on their way better (I'm for that)," Neil said. "Some love them and some hate them. I don't have an opinion yet. I just hope they are big enough for the semis that come through there." Director Skip Sipos wants to build a 10-unit apartment for the homeless. Commissioners also declared it necessary to proceed with a five-year, 0.275-mill renewal levy for the Medina County Home in the Nov. 2 general election. Commissioner Steve Hambley said this is a "procedural requirement." The resolution sends it to the Medina County auditor to make sure all the figures are correct. "It can be modified," he said.
