Chippewa Lake Fourth of July Parade announced The Chippewa Lake Lions Club Foundation announced Thursday the return of the annual Fourth of July parade, one of the oldest and largest parades in the area. The theme this year will be "Red, White and Blue." The 1 p.m. July 4 parade follows Lake Road from Gloria Glens and concludes at Lions Park in Chippewa Lake. Individuals and groups are welcome to be part of the parade. Information to register or become a sponsor is available at chippewalakelions.com. Parade participation is free, but preregistration is required. Prizes are given in many categories, which are detailed on the website. Community band returns with Fourth of July concert Medina Community Band will present its first concert of the 2021 summer season, a celebration of 162 years of presenting community concerts in Medina, at 7:30 p.m. July 4 in Medina's Uptown Park Square. The concert is being held in memory of those Medina County residents who have died due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be the first concert Medina Community Band has presented since the 2019 summer season due to the pandemic. "We will be social distancing in line with Centers for Disease Control and Cleveland Clinic guidelines and will not be able to use the Uptown Park Gazebo," conductor Marcus Neiman said in a statement. "Instead, we hope to use the bandstand instead. Following the current CDC face mask guidelines, the members of the ensemble will not be wearing face coverings while performing. In order to comply with social distancing, the size of Medina Community Band for the July 4 concert will be reduced to 20 playing members." Granger families, students rise to annual challenge Granger Elementary School recently held its 10th annual Granger Challenge fundraiser, organized by the PTO. This year, more than $12,085 was raised through the generosity of Granger families. These funds will continue to support the many supplemental events provided by the Granger PTO. The Hornet mascot made a guest appearance June 2-3 at Granger Elementary School as a special thank you for donations made to the Granger Challenge. Local students' work showcased at the Baldwin Wallace University Students from Medina County were among more than 100 students whose academic work was showcased during the Baldwin Wallace University Ovation 2021 Day of Excellence. Buckeye High School alumni Alana Perez, of Medina, majoring in nursing, presented a project titled "Madeleine Leininger Culture Care Theory," and Jacob Doerge, of Medina, majoring in computer science, presented a project titled "Choose Ohio First STEM Scholars Program — Health Care Tech Career Trek." Clay Kolke, of Medina, a graduate of Medina High School majoring in physics and environmental science, presented "Mountain Pine Beetle caused Tree Mortality: Effects on Wildfires." Denny Ulichney, of Brunswick, a graduate of Brunswick High School majoring in computer science, presented "Choose Ohio First STEM Scholars Program — Health Care Tech Career Trek." Justin Palitto, of Wadsworth, a nursing major, presented "A Concept Map of a Practical Application of Katharine Kolcaba's Comfort Theory." Lynette Ayersman, of Valley City, a nursing major, presented "Effects of Nursing Care Based on Watson's Theory of Human Caring on Anxiety, Distress, and Coping, When Infertility Treatment Fails: A Randomized Controlled Study." Maddie Mascia, of Brunswick, a graduate of Brunswick High School majoring in music theory, presented "BW Bach Festival as Female-Centered Cultural Process."
