Access the Arts bringing entertainment to Sharon Center

SHARON CENTER — Access the Arts is making a lot happen in Sharon Center this summer. Access the Arts is a nonprofit based in Medina County whose mission is to bring free arts programming to the community with outreach to underserved groups such as at-risk youth, the elderly and those with special needs. Even through the pandemic, the group brought music lessons, art classes, gardening and book clubs to groups at the Medina County Detention Center and the Medina County Home. The nonprofit's first concert is 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, with Yankee Bravo, a six-piece Americana/rock band performing in the town gazebo. Attendees are asked to bring a chair or blanket and listen to music while enjoying some cherry cobbler, provided by Access the Arts. The next event is the largest of the season. The Sharon Showcase is an art and music festival held in the circle from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, June 12. All vendors, including arts, crafts, food and beer/wine vendors, will be inside the circle. There will be more than 60 arts and craft vendors and kids can enjoy Jungle Terry at noon with lots of children's activities during the day. A large concert will be held that evening in the gazebo with Rachel Brown and the Beatnik Playboys beginning at 6 p.m. and The Buck Naked Band playing at 8:30 p.m. There will be a $5 cover charge for entry after 5:30 p.m. The Sharon Township Fire Association will be serving beer and wine. Traffic will be maintained around the circle with a free shuttle operating all day. Parking will be at Sharon Elementary School and the Sharon Community Park. There will be a vendor basket raffle all day with more than 50 large raffle prizes. All proceeds from the Sharon Showcase go toward free arts programs for troubled youth, the elderly and those with special needs.
