Medina senior career center student of the month Medina High School senior Mansi Pathak has been selected as the Medina County Kiwanis April Student of the Month for the Medina County Career Center by a panel of her peers. She is ranked 154 out of her class of 531. She is a senior in the Diversified Medical Technologies Program and serves as president of her class. She was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society as a junior. She earned the Star Student Award as a junior and as a senior, and has been on the Honor Roll. At her home school, she served as vice president of the Spanish Club and was a member of SADD. She was a four-year member of the tennis team, lettering as a junior. She served as team captain and won the Captain's Award. She has been a member of Key Club all through high school. At the 2021 Key Club District Leadership Conference, she was awarded the Robert F. Lucas Outstanding Lieutenant Governor's Award and the Governor's Excellence Award. She is the daughter of Roopal and Viren Pathak. She plans to attend Kent State University to major in nursing. Highland High students named winners in National Latin Exam Several Highland High School students were named winners in the recent 2021 National Latin Exam. Latin I winners are Noah Holland (Gold Medal) summa cum laude; Heather Zimmerman, magna cum laude; Grace Merk, cum laude; and Jordyn Tousley, cum laude. Latin III winners are Brian Marasco (Gold Medal) summa cum laude; Mikalina Fisher, magna cum laude; and Anya VanKirk, cum laude. The National Latin Exam is a test given annually to Latin students across the United States and around the world. Valley City college student receives award for community engagement The Ohio Campus Compact, a nonprofit membership organization of 35 Ohio colleges and universities, announced that Patrick Caniglia of Valley City is a recipient of the 2021 Charles J. Ping Student Service Award. The annual award recognizes and honors undergraduate students for their outstanding leadership and contributions to community service or service-learning on their campus and within their community. Caniglia is a student at Bowling Green State University. Alzheimer's Association introduces baseball memories program In this season of baseball, the Alzheimer's Association is offering a chance for people with dementia to remember the sights and sounds of the ballpark. The song "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" with the "One, two, three strikes you're out" lyrics will hopefully trigger positive memories during a free virtual program called Baseball Memories being offered at 2 p.m. April 27 in partnership with the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) Jack Graney Chapter. The program is open to people with mild to moderate memory loss with their caregivers. The one-hour program includes musical components and information about going to the ballgame. Hospice of the Western Reserve seeks volunteers The Hospice of the Western Reserve is seeking volunteers through its volunteer navigator programs. Volunteers are needed to support patients and families through phone calls, virtual visits, Veterans Serving Veterans, attorneys, notaries, and the new Pet Piece of Mind and End of Life Doula programs. The average sale price was $254,483. The total fees collected for residential transfers was $33,997.50. There was one commercial sale in the week. At this time in 2020, there were 76 residential home sales with an average sale price of $205,879. The total fees collected for residential transfers were $47,013.80. There were no commercial sales that week.
