Medina man killed in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — A 33-year-old Medina man was killed early Tuesday morning as part of a suspected double homicide in Cleveland near West 54th Street and Storer Avenue, according to Jennifer Ciaccia, Cleveland Police public information officer. Officers responded around 12:55 a.m. Tuesday to reports of shots fired in the city's Stockyards neighborhood. At the scene, they found a man, identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office as Alonszo Lewis, in the driver's seat of a car alongside Stephanie Lee, a 29-year-old Cleveland woman, in the passenger seat. Lewis had gunshot wounds to his neck and Lee was shot in her chest and neck. Officers gave first aid until EMS arrived. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Members of the homicide unit responded to the scene for investigation and interviewed witnesses. From those interviews, a potential suspect was identified. The suspect, described only as a 29-year-old male, was detained by detectives. Police said that after further investigation, a handgun and narcotics were found. The matter remains under investigation. Lewis' mother, Tonya Lewis, started a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral costs. As of Wednesday evening, less than 24 hours after it was started, it already had raised more than $1,100. In her message on the fundraiser, Lewis said her son was the father of two young daughters, ages 3 and 4, and that he is the second son she has lost to street violence. According to the fundraiser, Alonszo Lewis' brother, Da'Von, was killed March 18, 2011. Contact reporter Jack Kopanski at (330) 721-4063 or jkopanski@medina-gazette.com.
