Patrol targeting speeding, OVI offenses in March The Medina Post of the State Highway Patrol will spend this month targeting two enforcement efforts in two parts of Medina County. Troopers will be along Interstate 71 looking for speeders in an effort to reduce the amount of speed related crashes. Traffic crash data has shown that I-71 was the top road for speed related crashes in Medina County during 2020. In addition, troopers will be out along U.S. 42 looking for impaired drivers as traffic crash data has shown that certain areas on U.S. 42 had the highest amount of OVI-related crashes in Medina County during 2020. Motorist will notice an increased presence of troopers on I-71 and U.S. 42 this month. Claggett Middle School students participate in Virtual Power of the Pen Tournament Recently, eight Claggett Middle School students participated in a virtual online version of the Power of the Pen District competition. Of the students who participated, seventh-grader Abigail Alvarez earned merit status with seventh-grade students Mason Cooper and Emily Mousourakis and eighth-grade students Joy Milewski, Quinn Brightbill, and Calista Harden all earning honors. Joy Milewski was the fourth-place winner overall in the eighth-grade division in the district competition. Mason Cooper, Emily Mousourakis, Joy Milewski and Quinn Brightbill advanced to the regional tournament hosted by Kent State University on Saturday. StoryPoint Medina hosted February food drive StoryPoint Medina, 122 Medina Road, Medina, worked hard to collect donations for its February food drive. Their goal was to collect canned goods and non-perishable items to help those in need. Specific items collected included boxed cereal, peanut butter, canned tuna, canned vegetable and canned soup. The food drive ran until the end of February with donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, located at St. Francis Xavier Church in Medina. The church accepts donations throughout the year. "We enjoy giving back to the community during the rough times of those who may have lost their jobs due to COVID," said StoryPoint Medina Life Enrichment Director Carol Briseno said. StoryPoint Medina opened its doors at the end of 2020. Cedar Point to host hiring event Cedar Point plans to hire approximately 6,500 associates for the 2021 season. Chippewa Road closed Chippewa Road, County Highway 50, is closed due to high water. High water is between Lake Road and Ballash Road in Lafayette Township and will remain closed until further notice.
