Darlene 'Penny' Mason

Darlene 'Penny' Mason, 73, of Valley City, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Penny was born October 6, 1947 in East Cleveland and grew up in Medina County. She had resided in Valley City since 1970. Penny served the Lord in Ministry for over 50 years, from serving in the nursery at First Baptist of Valley City to teaching a Sunday School class at Grace Baptist Church, Brunswick. Penny had opened her home to Day Care for numerous youngsters for 47 years. She was known fondly as 'Miss Penny' and 'Mama Mason' to her kids. Penny was working up to the final week before the Lord took her home. Even though her body was weak she still was able to hold and love the children she cared for. Penny Mason was one of the most kind hearted, caring, compassionate and loving individuals that anyone could have met. She was not only a good Christian woman who lived by the word of the Lord but had given her life to watch, cherish and help children grow. She had been a saving grace to many people in the community throughout the years. Her house was a safe place for these children to go to play and learn while their parents are at work. Penny treated each and every one of the kids that she watched just as she did her own children and grandchildren. Penny cherished all of the children she watched. Penny was not only a lifesaver to all the children's families she cared for, but to her own family as well. She has two children and four granddaughters. Penny was so proud of her family and she would do anything for all of them. Penny had always been a 'big' part of her granddaughters lives despite having long days watching other people's children. Penny will be greatly missed by her husband, Larry, married 53 years in April; daughter, Christine (Jamie) Prill, their daughters, Penny and Kaley; son, Scott (Leah) Mason, their daughters, Ashlyn and Eleora; her sisters, Sherry Hall (Missy) and Gail Jeffrey (Amy) and her brother, Joe Srodek (Justine and Janelle). A Homegoing Service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Grace Baptist Church, 3289 Laurel Road, Brunswick, followed by fellowship gathering. Contributions may be made to the family to help defray final expenses. The Bauer Funeral Home, Valley City, has the honor of serving the Mason family.
