Up to 6 inches of snow falls across Medina County

As the latest winter storm blew through Ohio between late Sunday and into Tuesday, Medina County as a whole saw upwards of 6 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland. The highest reported total from early Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon was just north of Lodi and came in at 5.7 inches. About 4.3 inches was recorded just southeast of Hinckley and in northeast Medina, with an even 4 inches being reported in northeast Brunswick and just east of Homerville. Wadsworth reported 3.7 inches. A meteorologist from the National Weather Service said these totals cover an approximately 24-to 30-hour span from Monday into Tuesday. As of Tuesday afternoon, First Energy's website reported no power outages in the county. The storm also is being blamed for at least two deaths, including one in Medina County. A 71-year-old Cleveland man died Tuesday morning after he crashed his car into the back of an Ohio Department of Transportation plow truck. Joseph Wheeler was pronounced dead at the scene follow the crash on Interstate 71 near state Route 83. The ODOT plow was performing winter roadway maintenance in the left lane when it was struck from behind by Wheeler's car. The plow driver was not injured and the crash remains under investigation. In a news release from the Medina Post of the State Highway Patrol, it urged drivers to be extra cautious when driving on show and ice-covered roadways. "(Motorists) should allow extra time to get to their destination and maintain a safe distance between their vehicle and the traffic ahead," the release said. "This is especially important as our traffic safety partners and their crews are clearing our roadways." Just south of Toledo, a man plowing snow with an all-terrain vehicle failed to yield to a car and was struck and killed Tuesday morning, according to the Wood County sheriff's office.
