TOP 10: BCI closes Bryon Macron case, saying trustee "staged" his death

The state's Bureau of Criminal Investigation released its investigative summary report Oct. 22 on the mysterious death of Lafayette Township Trustee Bryon Macron, and with it brought to close a case that started long before 2020. In the report dated Sept. 27, it believes the death was "staged" by Macron but refused to say he died by suicide. Dr. Lisa Deranek said in her autopsy report in July 2018 the death was "undetermined." The report said, "There was no new incontrovertible evidence discovered indicating other persons may have been involved in the death." The body of 45-year-old Macron, who was reported missing Dec. 16, 2016, was found floating in Chippewa Lake on Feb. 21, 2017, by a kayaker. Deranek said no water was found in Macron's lungs, which could mean he died before he went into the water. Medina County Prosecutor Forrest Thompson turned the investigation over to BCI in June 2018. Previously, the Medina County Sheriff's Office investigated the case. "(Several) items appeared inconsistent to a serious violent, physical confrontation involving a blood-letting event (in Macron's office) and lent more to a possible staged crime scene," the report said.
