High school soccer: Gavin Csiszar and Cole Parete recognized as All-Americans

Medina County is making this national award thing a yearly occurrence. For the sixth year in a row, a Medina County athlete was named All-America by the United Soccer Coaches. For the third season in a row, the area landed two on the team. The organization released its list Wednesday, and Medina midfielder Gavin Csiszar and Brunswick midfielder Cole Parete were named. Csiszar has been a mainstay on the last four state semifinal teams for the Bees, while Parete hand a hand in the Blue Devils reaching their sixth district final and first since 2006. A three-time All-Gazette selection, Csiszar scored seven goals and seven assists and finished his four-year career with 17 goals, 14 assists, one state championship and a state runner-up . He was part of senior class that went 72-6-12, including 23-3 in postseason, and reached four consecutive state semifinals. Medina finished the season 18-2-2 and won the Greater Cleveland Conference with a 6-0 record. "I am honored to receive such an amazing award," Csiszar said. "I love soccer and loved being able to play alongside my teammates throughout the past four years. I'm thankful I am able to be a part of Medina's legacy and that I had such incredible coaches and teammates to help get me here." Parete was also a three-time All-Gazette selection and the GCC co-Player of the Year. The Georgetown recruit set a school record with a Medina-County best 22 goals and 15 assists. He holds school records for career goals (56), assists (55) and points (167), as well as points in a game (14) and assists in season (22) Brunswick finished 12-4-3 and was third in the GCC at 4-2. "Being an All-American is an honor unlike no other," Parete said. "It validates all the hard work hard work that my coaches, teammates and I have put in over the last several years. It would have been possible without the support of my family, the community and every alumni that came before me." Brunswick forward Jordyn Wickes was named to the All-Region Central girls team. The Gazette MVP set a school record holder for goals (30) and points (69) in a season en route to the Blue Devils' first regional appearance since 2016. Medina defender Tori Lyncha joined her. The senior was the leader of a defense that allowed 15 goals (0.78 per game) and shut out Wadsworth, Elyria, Solon, Brunswick, Walsh Jesuit, Euclid, Firestone and Shaker Heights.
