6th annual Turkey Drive on Nov. 18 Feeding Medina County will hold its sixth annual Turkey Drive from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Medina County Courthouse parking lot. People are asked to enter on East Washington or East Liberty streets. This is a time for Medina County residents to ensure meals for those less fortunate on Thanksgiving. Legion Post 202 donates to Medina County Home Medina's American Legion Post 202 has donated comfort items to the residents of the Medina County Home, dropping off enough toothbrushes, toothpaste and large white socks for each resident and approximately 350 DVDs and puzzles. "We know how frustrating being sequestered is for all of us during this pandemic, but the residents of the Medina County Home cannot receive visitors nor get outside to go places," Bob Fenn, Legion Post 202 commander, said in a statement. "We wanted them to know we are thinking about them and their circumstances during these trying times." Greg Brown, superintendent of Medina County Home said the donation was an amazing gesture of kindness to the residents. "They were so excited about receiving so many DVDs that they built a shelving unit to display them," Brown said in a statement. "The generous donations will assist the home in stretching tax levy dollars." Chippewa Lake closed due to flooding As of Friday, the Medina County Park District has closed Chippewa Lake due to flooding. In keeping with a longstanding safety protocol implemented by the villages of Chippewa Lake and Gloria Glens, as well as the Medina County Health Department, Medina County Sanitary Engineer and the park district, E. coli testing must take place before the lake can be reopened. The lake will reopen when conditions allow. In addition, Chippewa Road in Lafayette Township between Lake Road and Ballash Road and Friendsville Road in Westfield Township between Garman Road and the county line are closed due to high water causing the roadways to be hazardous and will remain closed until further notice. Career center's October Student of the Month is Janna Raeber Medina senior Janna Raeber has been selected by a panel of her peers as the Medina County Kiwanis October Student of the Month for the Medina County Career Center. Raeber is ranked 171 out of her class of 533. She is a senior in the Diversified Medical Technologies program. She has served as a mentor in the Big Brother, Big Sister program, volunteers with Medina Sparkle Cheer and at the Medina County Animal Shelter. She is an active member of the Grace Church youth group and was in the United Church of Christ youth group through which she traveled on mission trips to West Virginia, Costa Rica and Cleveland twice. Academically, she is taking College Credit Plus classes through Lorain County Community College. She plays club tennis, is a varsity cheerleader and was in competitive dance. Through her DMT program, she is a certified STNA and has completed certifications in first aid and CPR. She had perfect attendance the last three years and was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society as a junior. Raeber is the daughter of Jeff and Michelle Raeber. She plans to attend college as a pre-medicine major. Chamber hears from nonprofits during digital meeting Local nonprofits will offer members of the Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance a show case of services during a Zoom meeting at 12 p.m. Nov. 18. Participating nonprofits include the Brunswick Food Pantry, H2O Foundation, Brunswick Area Historical Foundation, Oaks Family Care Center, Liverpool Historical Society and That Place for Teens.
