Edward Anderson McLeod

Edward Anderson McLeod, 88, passed away peacefully with family by his side Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Avenue Care & Rehabilitation Center, Medina. Born in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania on April 19, 1932, Ed was the son of the late Edward Hutchins McLeod and Mildred (Anderson) McLeod. Ed graduated from Germantown Academy and went on to study at the University of Delaware and Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Engineering. A strong athlete, Ed enjoyed playing baseball and basketball throughout his scholastic years, going on to play semi-pro baseball in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Upon graduating from college, Ed proudly served as a medic in the United States Army in Ulm, Germany from 1960 to 1962. He then began a long and successful career in specialty chemical and dyestuff sales, ultimately establishing McLeod Enterprises, representing companies from New England to North Carolina. January 12, 1964, Ed married the love of his life, Barbara MacDonnell. Ed and Barbara went on to raise three daughters, Malvena, Jennifer and Suzanne. A dedicated family man, Ed made family his top priority and spent most weekends and summers enjoying time together on the Eastern Shore in Maryland. Ed passed on his deep love of the Chesapeake Bay and Sassafras River, taking his family boating, crabbing and fishing and spending endless summer days in the water and picnicking on the beach. Ed was an enthusiastic supporter of Barbara's gift for watercolor painting, attending her many watercolor shows and exhibits in the Mid-Atlantic area. Likewise, Ed never missed any of his daughters' activities. From school assemblies to marching band performances and sporting events, he was always there. He became a beloved fixture at Western Maryland College lacrosse games, where he stood on the hill, rain or shine, supporting his daughter and her teammates. Among Ed's passions in life were his many canine companions, his beloved Philadelphia sports teams, Penn State football and time spent outdoors gardening and doing yardwork.Ed will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, positive outlook, strong patriotism and his appreciation for each new day. His grateful and optimistic spirit defined him throughout his life and endured through his final hours. Ed is survived by his loyal and lovable dog, Sam; daughters, Major (retired) Malvena McLeod of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, Lieutenant (retired) Jennifer Hurlburt (wife of Keith Hurlburt) of Macungie, Pennsylvania and Suzanne Sparks (wife of Vietnam Veteran, Terry Sparks) of Brunswick; four grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Nicolas and Aiden Hurlburt and sister, Barbara (McLeod) Cockley of Paoli, Pennsylvania. Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara McLeod. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Interment will be private.
