Halloween is normally a time to enjoy a good scare. While 2020 has taken care of that on its own, the holiday does provide an opportunity for families to take advantage of non-scary and kid-friendly events good for an afternoon or evening's worth of fun. Here's a quick rundown of what's being offered this Halloween season: Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's Trick-or-Treat Fest 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays (now through Oct. 31) Cost: $16 (children under 2 are free) 3900 Wildlife Way, Cleveland clevelandmetroparks.com/zoo In lieu of the canceled Boo at the Zoo events, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo presents the Trick-or-Treat Fest, which includes spook-tacular live performances in the Zoo's amphitheater, access to Trick-or-Treat Way featuring more than a dozen candy stations, meet-and-greets with costume characters, rides on the Circle of Wildlife Carousel and entry to the Dinosaurs Around the World exhibit. Guests are encouraged to wear fun (not scary) costumes. The zoo has implemented several additional safety measures, including hand-washing stations. Visitors are required to wear facial coverings during their visit, unless younger than 6, or because of an existing condition. Greater Cleveland Aquarium's Pumpkins & Piranhas SEA-sonal Fun Days 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays (Oct. 22 through 30) Cost: $19.95 (children ages 2 to 12 are $13.95 with children under 2 free) Advanced tickets required. 2000 Sycamore St., Cleveland greaterclevelandaquarium.com The Greater Cleveland Aquarium's brand-new Pumpkins & Piranhas SEA-sonal Fun Days includes underwater pumpkin decorations, costumed staffers and divers and pop-up sea-sonally themed enrichment in the Tropical Forest aviary. There are also "I Spy" and not-so spooky animal fact activities and take-home bags. The attraction features one-way traffic, additional sanitization stations and timed entry. Masks are required. Rockin R Ranch Old West Pumpkin Fest Noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays (now through Oct. 25) Cost: $11 (children under 2 free) 19066 E. River Road, Columbia Station clevelandhayride.com The whole family is invited to what's called the best pumpkin patch and fall festival in Northeast Ohio. Family activities include pony rides, pumpkin slide hayrides, animal petting farm, face painting, free prizes, pumpkin painting and super slide. Masks and social distancing are required. Brasee's Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch 4 to 10 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays (Now through Oct. 31) Cost: $6 (children age 4 and under free with adult paid admission) 18421 State Route 58, Wellington braseescornmaze.com Located on 27 scenic acres, Brasee's Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch also includes a petting zoo, straw maze, corn pit, straw slide and pitch-black straw maze.
