Spencer man dead after crash in Homerville

HOMERVILLE — A 37-year-old Spencer man died Wednesday evening in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 224 when his truck overturned after going off the road. The State Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, including determining whether drugs and/or alcohol use played a role. According to the patrol, the crash happened just before 7 p.m. when a white Ford F-150 was heading east on Route 224 and approached the intersection of state Route 301. The truck traveled off the north side of the road and went through a parking lot, striking a parked car owned by the U.S. Postal Service. After hitting the car, the truck struck a small group of trees and overturned. The driver, Jimmy Lafferty of Spencer, was thrown from the truck and the truck came to a final rest on all its wheels. Lafferty was pronounced deceased at the scene by Town and County Fire and EMS. He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said. The patrol was assisted on scene by the Medina County Sheriff's Office, Spencer Police Department, Town and County Fire and EMS, the Medina County Coroner's Office and Lloyd's Towing.
