Wadsworth court BMV issues resolved

WADSWORTH — Computer errors resulting in duplicate suspensions and convictions on thousands of driving records have been resolved in Wadsworth Municipal Court. Clerk of Courts Cassie Frye said the roughly 3,000 cases affected have also been resolved with any duplicate payments already made being lined up for reimbursement through the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. In a Monday Facebook post, the court urged people who believe they're still having issues with their driving record to call (330) 335-1596 as soon as possible. "We are very, very appreciative to the Ohio BMV for how they worked with us to get this fixed quickly," Frye said. "All of the records have been corrected with them. We're thankful to them and to the people who've called and come in to help us work through these issues." Frye said last week that affected cases dated back to 1998 and that misreporting to the BMV went on for about a week before calls from residents who'd received suspension notices started to come in. The problem was first publicly acknowledged July 27. Some drivers have had past offenses show up twice on their records while others received letters from the BMV stating their licenses were suspended pending payment of reinstatement fees despite their cases being closed. Frye said she had not heard of any drivers being pulled over without knowing their licenses were suspended. "The BMV worked on this relentlessly to get this resolved in about a week's time," she said. "For anyone who had filled out the form on our website or through the probation department, we communicated with the BMV to get them those reports daily. Everything has been resolved. "Anything that was a duplicate or suspension has been taken care of." Local law enforcement agencies will continue to be made aware of the situation should any other cases with duplicate Wadsworth reporting pop up in the future, Frye said.
