Clayton Lee Benjamin

Clayton Lee Benjamin, 80, of Medina, the world's biggest Cleveland Indians fan, was called up to the Heavenly Major Leagues on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Clayton was born in Brunswick and lived in Medina his entire adult life.He graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College, served his Country in the National Guard and spent his working career as a medical supplies salesman. His volunteer work with Medina Breakfast Kiwanis was legendary. But his true vocation was rooting for the Cleveland Indians. He was a proud season ticket holder, loved going to Spring Training and always went to Tribefest in the Winter. He attended Cleveland Indians Fantasy Camp four times. No matter how the Indians performed on the field, he was eternally optimistic that they would win the World Series, if not this year, then next year. Yes, he was there at Game 7 of the 2016 World Series.He enjoyed travel and was known for his great sense of humor, bad jokes, posting ridiculous news stories to his Facebook page, love of Mountain Dew and penchant for chain sawing as much firewood as possible.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Fran (nee Van Treuren); beloved daughter, Michele (Mark) Benjamin of Medina; grandchildren, Mira Kuhar of North Royalton, Macy Kuhar of Columbus and Marko Kuhar of Medina; sister, Nola Lowther of Medina; niece, Kristen Lowther of Medina and nephew, Chad Lowther of Cleveland.He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Dusty.A private service will be held at Waite Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Medina Breakfast Kiwanis or Hospice of the Western Reserve.Online condolences may be left by family and friends at www.waitefuneralhome.com
