County Recorder closed to visitors, but essential services will continue

ELYRIA — The Lorain County Recorder's Office in the County Administration Building at 226 Middle Ave. will be closed to all visitors starting Wednesday until further notice, Recorder Judy Nedwick announced. Essential services will be maintained with the exception of issuing veterans' ID cards. For the safety of the community, no cards will be issued during the closure. Documents that need to be recorded will be accepted via e-recording, mail or drop-off. Documents may be dropped off to a staff member in the lobby of the Administration Building at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. If you are dropping off documents including a cover sheet, make sure it lists the company name, contact person, phone number and email address. Payment will be accepted by check only. Anyone unsure of the fee amount may call the Recorder's Office at (440) 329-5148 prior to dropping off documents. The online search system is available 24/7 with documents and images from 1987 to the present. The unofficial watermark will be removed from all online images during the closure, but will return once business is back to normal. Anyone in need of indexes or copies prior to 1987 should send an email to lcrecorder@loraincounty.com, and every attempt will be made to accommodate the request by email, fax or mail. The $2 per page copy fee will be suspended while the office is closed to visitors and the general public. The office's website, loraincounty.com/recorder, will have additional updates as needed.
