Body found in Montville Township park

MONTVILLE TWP. — A deceased man was found lying in the grass Sunday morning at Cobblestone Park, which lies adjacent to Ralph E. Waite Elementary School. According to Montville Township police, the body was located at 7:40 a.m. next to a bench at the park, 4765 Cobblestone Drive. Officers reported making the discovery as the body laid motionless on the ground with confirmation of death coming immediately after. Montville Township police Chief Matthew Neil was adamant in saying no foul play is suspected and that no threat has been posed to the public or school. "We've been getting comments about a homicide and that couldn't be further from the truth," he said. "It's nothing like that. People seem to be making a lot of assumptions. There are absolutely no signs of foul play. There's no sign of anything. It's unfortunate, but I think people saw it was next to a school and became concerned, rightfully so. There is no concern for the public's well-being." A drug overdose does not appear to be the cause of death and there is no ongoing criminal investigation into the incident, Neil said. Further identification of the man including his name, age, and area of residence has not been released. Neil said investigators with the Medina County Coroner's Officer are still determining how long the body was lying the park. "We do know he wasn't out there yesterday at this time of the day," he said. "We just want to get the right information out there. We felt it was necessary because of the calls we were getting that were totally inaccurate. Sometimes people just jump to conclusions."
